Car Wash Can be Not-So-Boring Afterall

As much as I hate to go for car washes (thanks to those long, painful & boring waits in the car), I had no choice but to bring my little Mini for a good shower.  Mini was all covered in little dots of stains which have been accumulated for god knows how long.  I must admit I have been the most "bo-chap" car owner for the past weeks.

After overcoming my internal reluctance and convincing the guilt-stricken me that Mini should not be punished with dirt and grease for her owner's laziness, the weather turned out to be another obstacle! Urrrggghhhh... and it went on for two days, depriving us of the opportunity to do so.  Trust me, it was not one of those excuses I made for myself.

And finally, it was sunshine after the rain and so... off we went.

I supposed I wasn't the only driver who have been waiting patiently for the last drop of rain to evaporate and then zoomed off to the car wash because I had at least eight cars infront of me.  This is exactly why I am no big fan of car washes... but hey hey hey... me knowing better than to bore myself to death, I went fully prepared this time!

I armed myself with a good old cup of Mr Bean's almond soya milk and a sinful pack of Taiwanese fried chicken.  It is kind of like having pop corns and coke in the cinema :P

So the car wash turned out great - with me satisfied gastronomically and Mini shining proudly once more :)

My Favourite Beef Noodles

Following the awakening truth of my serious lack of iron, I decided to frequent my favourite beef noodles place ever more frequently.

To my delight, they are running a special promotion (didn't expect the downturn to impact the sales of yummy beef goodness).  So for all beef noodles lovers, give it a try!

If you can't tell from the photo where this is located... I don't blame you... I mean who can?
So to let you in, this is along Upper Serangoon Rd (the same stretch as the famous punggol nasi lemak)

Don't forget... One-for-One promotion for every large bowl ordered.  Valid from Tues-Sat 7pm onwards.

Spidey & Barbie

Perhaps it is a trend now that kids don't only get a cake on their birthday but they are also treated to their favourite character(s) made in agar-agar (aka jelly).  Yes... at least that was what both my god-daughter and god-son got this year for their respective birthdays... a HUGE cake plus a custom-made visual treat from their mum, who always go to great lengths to delight them on such special occasions.  The kids simply loved them and even the adults were intrigued.

Here is the Spidey:

And here is the Barbie...

Oh... have I mentioned they taste as delicious as they look :P

I Need Iron!

My blood test showed Iron Deficiency (dietary) and/or Thalassaemia traits (hereditary) .  Since young, I have always been low on iron, thus signs of mild anemia at certain points in my life.   Unfortunately, my parents can neither recall nor have any records during my childhood to indicate if it is hereditary.  My gyane explained that if it is really Thalassaemia, then there is nothing much I can do about it but if it is purely dietary Iron Deficiency, I can try to salvage by doubling my iron supplements intake and through foods like beef, spinach & liver.

So immediately after the checkup, I wasted no time in indulging in a beef feast :P

Hamburger Steak...

Beef Stew...

The nurse was just slapping on my hip while I was on the weighing scale: "My dear, you have put on weight..." So much for weight control.

Mini Memories

Was organizing some old photos and came across some old pics (ok lah actually not that old...> a year ago) taken on the day I changed my car car.

Here was me saying bye bye to my good old Toyota... I wonder where it is now... or at least where the pieces are now...

And here was me sitting in my Mini for the very first time... ooohhhh... so excited...

Still fidgeting around with the various functions...

See the plaster on my big toe?  It must be one of those toe-nail-falling-off crisis (which used to be a frequent condition for me I must say)...

And lastly...  moments before I drove off in my very own Mini! Yippee!

Mothers' Day Redefined

I used to feel that Mothers' Day is yet another commercial exploit, with super long queues outside restaurants and OSIM roadshows sprouting everywhere.

However this Mothers' Day, I figured that it can be a significant and meaningful affair not just through elaborate dinners or showering them with expensive gifts.

Here is what I witnessed and learnt over the weekend:

Our own Mothers' Day celebration was actually a night out at KTV with everyone singing their hearts out. (Happening right? I think we might be going bowling on Fathers' Day! Haahaa)  They looked extremely excited and satisfied belting out their favourite tunes.  Spending happy moments together on activities our mothers enjoy is really a great way to bring a smile to their faces.

During a wedding luncheon I attended on this same weekend, my friends took the opportunity to honour their respective mothers on stage with bouquets of flowers and I could see them gleaming with pride and joy.

Another friend of mine blogged about her baking a cheesecake for her mum on this special occasion and was totally rewarded by how much her mum appreciated and loved it.

And of course this year's Mothers' Day takes on a slightly different meaning for me... though my little one is still doing his mini somersaults inside me... I think that is his way of saying Happy Mothers' Day to moi!

Washing Machine Finds

So far, I have recovered the following items from the washing machine thanks to The Man.

- ten cents coins
- twenty cents coins
- one dollar coins
- tissues ( in a million pieces)
- credit card
- SLR memory card
- plastic bags (must be from some baos or kuehs)

What's next huh??

Marina Barrage

This is my second time at The Marina Barrage.  I remember our first time there was on its opening weekend and I commented back then that I bet the open grass area will be a popular location for activities.

This time round, I am indeed met by a crowd that is scattered all over the place... kites flying, badminton (don't know how they managed in the wind), mini soccer, picnic etc...

Mmmm... a picnic there would be nice... but maybe not in this kind of weather.

Just hope there won't be any proliferating litter problems to blemish this picturesque place .  Already parking is quite a disaster...

There is a fountain area below that is somehow turning into a kids' swimming area (the photo did not turn out well).  Some kids actually came prepared with swim wear and everything.  I wonder if it is now officially a kids' pool.  Funny thing is I did smell chlorine as I walked past in bewilderment.
